Shenfield is a small town one mile from Brentwood, on the edge of the Essex countryside. If you like the bustle of the local high street or prefer a relaxing day in the countryside or on the golf course there is something here to suit everyone’s tastes.
Great shopping
It’s fair to say that many towns have had to mourn the loss of the high street recently, but not here in Shenfield. The town is fortunate to be home to a good variety of high street brand favourites and local independent shops. These include Hepburn’s butchers – a well-respected Essex stalwart since 1932, a bakery, florist, fishmonger, wine shop and independent travel agent. All situated a 15-minute walk (or 3-minute drive) away from Santhem Residences, many of which also offer local delivery.
Delicious dining
With more than 10 different places to eat out locally, Shenfield certainly has something to whet your appetite. Try The Hutton Junction – a traditional pub serving fresh food and real ale, or stylish restaurant Vault – a mecca for modern international cuisine or perhaps go for some ‘Mediterranean comfort food’ from The Lot restaurant. Also available in the area are Italian, Tandoori, Chinese and Middle Eastern cuisines, a traditional chip shop and plenty more to tantalise your tastebuds, not forgetting The Fable, Santhem Residences’ very own restaurant, serving classic seasonal dishes with a modern twist – opening soon
Sport & Leisure activities
If you’re a golfer, you’ll be in your element in Shenfield, there are over 15 golf courses all within a 30-minute drive. Or if boules is your thing, Hutton Poplars Bowls Club is just across the road from Santhem Residences, there are also two local cricket clubs. If you like to be at one with nature, the nearby Butterfly Meadow offers a tranquil garden setting where you can reflect peacefully and enjoy the wildlife. For walking, there are a few spots nearby such as Merrymead Country Park, Shenfield Park (great for feeding the ducks) and Hartswood Ancient Woodland.

Shenfield railway station is very well-connected with up to 13 trains per hour heading to London’s Liverpool Street, taking as little as 22 minutes.
